The new Volkswagen Golf has been given a mild update to ensure it keeps in with the competition until an all-new VW Golf goes on sale predicted to be around 2019. There isn’t much that has changed from the outgoing 4-year-old model, with very subtle changes to its exterior looks. There’s a redesigned bumper, grille front wing & more aggressive rear bumper, plus revised LED lights and new daytime running lights.
The focus on the new update has been on the inside which has been given a refreshed new look with an option of 12.3in high-definition digital instrument display to replace traditional dials called “Active Info Display” which we expect will be a very popular option. There is still a huge range of seat and steering wheel adjustment, So you will find comfort in your driving position no matter what size you are. The new Golf still has great visibility all round mainly thanks to its thin window pillars. There are also tweaks to the dashboard, Centre console and door trims giving the car a more up to date and professional look.
There are virtually no changes mechanically other than a new 1.5 turbo petrol engine. The new 148 bhp engine will sit above the current 1.4 Tsi 123 bhp & 1.0 Tsi 108 bhp. This engine pulls from low revs getting you up to motorway speeds very effortlessly and incredibly smoothly. It's impressively quiet a cruising speeds too and can shut down some of its cylinders when they’re not needed giving you a far better fuel return averaging between 52-55.4 mpg. Other than that, the new Golf will drive in a similar way to its predecessor with all the similar qualities as before – Refinement, Comfort and usability all still present. Vehicle Lease Management sees the new Volkswagen Golf as still one of the most refined family hatchbacks on sale today.
